Important Notices:
1. Prior to the procedure:
- Prepare for your implant procedure by carefully informing yourself about the process, after-care, and possible complications.
- One day before the procedure, wash your hair and pull it back, if you have long hair.
- If you wear earrings, please remove them at home.
- Please arrive rested and on time.
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- Drink only little coffee or black tea and no alcohol prior to the procedure.
- Do not smoke prior to procedure or smoke less.
- Visit the restroom prior to the procedure.
- You may bring someone along who can take you home safely after the procedure, because you may not be able to drive yourself.
- If you should happen to notice that one ear is infected or that you get a cold, please contact us as soon as possible. We may have to move the appointment for your implant procedure.
2. After the procedure:
- Take your time to recover i.e. avoid any stress during the first 48 hours following the implant procedure and give yourself a little rest.
- Directly after the procedure you should not drive. It is best to bring someone along who can take you home safely.
- If possible, you should not touch your ears up to 72 hours following the implant procedure. You should be careful when combing or brushing your hair and should not wash your hair.
- You should not wear any earrings at least up to 72 hours following the procedure.
- Pay attention to the cleanliness of the bandage and do not remove it.
- Don’t worry, if you notice a little irritation or redness on the ear.
- In case you notice signs of inflammation (e.g. very red, swelling, and/or pain at the ear), call our office immediately or see another doctor. A prescription of antibiotics (e.g. Clindamycin) may be necessary.
- It is possible to loose an implant needle. Please do not put the implant needle back into the implant channel (danger of infection!), but let us know at the follow-up visit.
- The first days following the implant procedure, your condition may temporarily get worse or your symptoms may become more pronounced (initial worsening). This response should not worry you.
- Continue taking your previous medications as usual. However, due to the implant effect, your medication will have to be adjusted or the dosage reduced in the following days or weeks. In relative terms, the current dosage of your medication is often too high after the implant procedure and it may result in signs of overdose. Please do not change your medication yourself. Ask your treating physician or our office. Some medications must be reduced slowly and cannot be stopped abruptly.
